Vegan Cheese Steak and Hummus Chips

This is a delicious healthy alternative to meat based steak sandwiches. Simple, fast and cheap!


1/4-1/2 cup seitan (depends on if you omit the mushrooms or not)

2 portobello button mushrooms sliced

1/4 cup chopped onions

1/8 cup sliced sweet peppers



Garlic powder

Red pepper flakes

Whole wheat roll

Vegan mayo or aioli (optional)


1. Sauté peppers, onions & mushrooms in sunflower/olive oil for about 5 minutes or until soft, add seitan to pan and season cooking an additional 3-5 minutes stirring frequently.

2. Add vegan cheese shreds and mix in.

3. Remove from heat and transfer to whole wheat bun with vegan mayo if desired and pair with a side of hummus chips or any other healthy crunchy snack you choose.

This makes a perfect packed lunch! Simply pack the roll on the side and place 'cheese steak' on roll once ready to eat. 10-15 minutes and can be multiplied for several sandwiches at once and costs about $1.50- $2 per serving.
